ABOUT USIn 1993 Ross and Derice McDonald started their wine journey with the first planting of Shiraz and Chardonnay in Branxton, Hunter Valley. Since that time they have nurtured a new vineyard in Rothbury concentrating on Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Semillon. In 2006 Macquariedale Estate was the first vineyard in the region to receive biodynamic certification. “When we were in the planning stage of converting we were told by a lot of sceptics that it was not possible to grow biodynamic grapes in the Hunter Valley. After converting, we believe that the proof is in the wine we produce!” Macquariedale Estate wines are made exclusively from our certified biodynamic grapes, using a combination of traditional and modern methods. No synthetic chemicals, no pesticides, no synthetic fertilisers and no herbicides are added, resulting in cleaner, fresher tasting wine, having richer flavours, full of the wonderful aromas of the fruit.
